My Decision Has Been Made….

After 14 years and a lot of thought and consideration, I have decided to go for my Master’s Degree in Fine Arts. In 1996, I graduated from the University of Hartford, Hartford Art School with my Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in Printmaking. Today, I am finishing up an Associates Degree in Website Development and work as a graphic and web designer. My intention is to start my graduate work next fall at UNH in Durham, NH.

My decision comes at a busy time for me – I currently watch my daughter, Jeannette, who is eleven months old during the day while trying to get my graphic design company, DPi Graphics, off the ground. My wife is currently pregnant with our second child due in April. Starting a Master’s program now would be crazy. Welcome to my world.

I taught art and design at McIntosh College from 2002-2004 – I loved it. It was inspiring for me to teach kids, I say kids because they were half my age, the basics of art and design, for which they already had a good grasp and the passion to create. I had long considered obtaining a teaching certificate to teach in the public schools, but had always put it to the wayside, for something to do years down the road.

I had no intention of ever getting a Master’s Degree in anything – I was pretty much done with school – following this third round of classes in a program. Something kind of clicked – the idea grew on me and now I’m preparing to apply.

I need to get back to creating artwork – drawing, painting and the like. I truly enjoy creating artwork and hope that this step forward will be an enjoyable one.
